The
Picture in the upper left of the background is my Mom and Dad while
he was on leave from the US Navy.. They were married in April
21, 1946 soon after Dad returned from the War. They remained
happily married until mom's passing in 1989 after 43 years of
marriage..They were the Greatest parents I could ask for.. Click
the back button below to see my Mom's Memorial page..
My Dad is
a US Navy Veteran of World WarII and I Am Very Proud Of
Him! He is a Wonderful Father, too.
This page is
dedicated to my Father, Floyd Louis "Pete" Cunningham, who
turned 77 years young Friday January 12th. Happy Father's Day
Dad!!
I will be telling you a little more about him as I
get the information. First we have World war II.. He was on
Active Duty in World War II He served from August 1941 to
October 1945 on the USS Goldsboro as a Gunners Mate 1st Class in
both The European and the Asiatic Theaters, with the majority of his
time in the South Pacific.
He also told me that he went into
hostile territory in Korea to rescue a captured US warship and
helped to bring the troups back to safety. He was injured during his
tour of duty and has the shrapnell to prove it..
He loves to
talk about everywhere he has been, Australia, New Zealand, Japan,
Korea, Hawaii to name a few Places... I will be updating this as I
get more information. He has pictures... I do know he was awarded
the purple heart and a few other medals, but some are not yet
accounted for by the US Military, including the Purple Heart..
Next we have the Fireman and Father... My Father is an
honorary member of his local Volunteer Fire Department..He played a
crucial part in founding the fire department in our home township,in
1956.!
For forty years, he has been and still is marching in
the Championship Kittanning Area Firemen's Band, which is a military
style marching band, dressed in Khaki Uniforms... He is in the
Color Guard and most of the time he carries their banner, sometimes
a flag.... I doubt he has ever missed a single parade..I believe
this has kept him young for his age..He is the eldest member of the
band.. He loves that band, actually it gives him something to look
forward to.
They march in a lot of parades and practice
several times a week, during the spring and summer. He doesn't miss
practice either...LOL. He has been chaplain for a several years and
does the services at the funeral of the local firemen some are his
friends and some he didn't know. He has many friends. He is well
liked and respected by them.. It is great to have the friends but
the losses are very tragic.
PA has recently lost a young
firefighter, who came from a family of firefighters. It was within
the second week of January, 2001. I don't recall his name.. He
was from Sugarcreek.Pennsylvania These men and women put their
lives on the line for our safety. I think we should all thank
them. The same for our Military,Policemen and EMS... Applaud
them... Respect them...
When I was a young child, my Dad was
trapped in a fire. The floor fell out from under him at an Isaly's
store fire in Kittanning, PA. He was trapped under the rubble.
Thank the good Lord, that his friends were able to free him
and he got out alive or this would be a much different type of
page.
I have a photo of the fireman's band from 1999 in my
Photo
Album. Please visit it and see my Dad at 75 yrs young.
I have a poem I recently wrote for him and I would like to
share it with you all.
My dear father passed away on August 13 2008. He was 84 years old. He is now in heaven with my mom.I will try to update my website soon with his memorial pages.
